The other day I asked my wife: “What would be the best possible thing that could happen to our neighborhood on Sunday afternoons?” It was a leading question: I expected her to guess that Hoosier Mama had added Sunday hours (which it had: 10 AM to 4 PM).
It’s not just any window seat: Haney’s shop is small, and the table, with its built-in pastel wooden benches and homey accessories, takes up the whole front of the space. It’s like a breakfast nook away from home, modestly decked out in the style of a farmhouse kitchen or timeless midwestern mom-and-pop restaurant. I can’t recommend a better way to while away an afternoon than in Hoosier Mama’s sunlit window with black coffee and a slice of vinegar chess pie. But don’t linger too long, because that’s probably me waiting for you to finish.
