There’s really nothing of any consequence to expect from a given January, but here: that’s when the Reader prints its annual Pure Fiction issue, written by you. This year will be number 14—check out the most recent issue here, and our Fiction archives here—and the time to submit your short stories is now. In the past we’ve been lucky to have published such illustrious authors as Gina Frangello, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Bayo Ojikutu, Stephen Markley, Adam Langer, and Rennie Sparks, who also wrote one of my favorite songs. Will you join them? There is honestly only one way to find out.
• Please send all submissions by November 15 to fiction@chicagoreader.com.• Think of 3,000 words as a good upper limit for your story. Multiple submissions are OK.• Our traditional preference has been for Chicagoans, but we’re not going to be total chauvinists about it.• There’s money involved for those we publish.
