Joravsky for Mayor

After I read “The Beginning and End of My Independent Political Career” (and finished laughing), I began to wonder how many others like me had cast a write-in vote for Ben Joravsky in the 2007 mayoral election. I started searching the Web for records of all the write-ins and hit a lot of dead ends. I finally ended up on David Orr’s Web site [davidorr.org], where I think I found a partial answer—while you can write in anyone you want, it won’t be recorded unless the person had filed (months before the election) an official form from the Cook County Clerk’s office (PDF on the Web), which must be notarized. It is called “write-in candidate declaration of intent.” The downloadable one available now on Orr’s Web site is for the upcoming November elections. —anonymous

Thanks. You may not believe this, but I actually watched Gomorrah twice because I wasn’t sure I was following it all the first time.
