Per usual, all the best movies to see today have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, but that shouldn’t deter you from checking out some of the most anticipated films of the year, including Quentin Tarantino’s shoot-’em-up western Django Unchained; Judd Apatow’s latest autobiographical comedy This is 40; Tom Hooper’s version of Les Miserables, and the family comedy Parental Guidance, starring Bette Midler and Billy Crystal. In the mood for a revival screening? David Lean’s classic Lawrence of Arabia debuts at the Music Box in a restored print.
Similarly, a good number of watering holes will have their doors open to those of us who are alone on Christmas. Your best bet might be Delilah’s, which will screen the Johnny Cash Christmas Special, from 1979. The show features appearances from Anne Murray, Tom T. Hall, and even Andy Kaufman, while the Man in Black serenades his live studio audience with various holiday classics.
