Half Italian Chicago has no shortage of fine Italian delis. Unfortunately, none were close to my not-for-profit in Avondale, where I’m usually hankering for a crusty bread sandwich . . . until now! Recently, Half Italian opened on Milwaukee Avenue, and I’m filled with joy!

Nancy A. Kamp, owner of Half Italian, has created a beautiful homage to her past by creating a well-balanced deli, grocer, and cucina. I’m usually there for the deli, though, where they have many great offerings, from the Beef Beauty, with beef tenderloin and caramelized onion, to a BLT with Applewood smoked bacon and a garlic mayonnaise. But, being vegetarian, I usually go for the Bella, with roasted portabello, carmelized onion, and grilled artichoke.
Boss This is one of my favorite shows on TV right now and not just because it is filmed and set in the best city in the world; the show has a good script and a great cast. In fact, Kelsey Grammer won a Golden Globe back in January for his portrayal of Todd Kane, the ruthless Chicago mayor with a degenerative neurological disorder.
